The Tri Town Times: 2/12/24

Never waste a good struggle.

Hi all,

Here is your weekly Tri Town Times newsletter:

Weekend highlights:

Marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum died in a car crash in his home county of Kenya at the age of 24. In 2023, Kiptum set the fastest official marathon time of 2:00:35 at the Chicago Marathon.

Shop ops:

We have a couple spots left in our Road Bike Maintenance 101 course. Class starts at 5pm tomorrow.

Quote that struct a chord:

"No man is more unhappy than he who never faces adversity. For he is not permitted to prove himself." Seneca

Multiple times during yesterday's Super Bowl, we were reminded that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was picked last in the 2022 NFL Draft. The last pick of the NFL draft is known as Mr. Irrelevant, a nod to how rare it is for the player to find success at the highest level of the game.

Social recognition is great, but the question is not whether people believe in you. The real question is, do you believe in yourself?

Brock has no control over what other people think or say about him, nor should he care. His 2022 NFL Combine report stated that he was an unimpressive "limited athlete with a maxed-out body." Oh, and he has "small hands."

No problem; another obstacle to overcome. The game is not a simple measure of who's the most athletic or has the biggest hands. Let's lean into other aspects of the game to overcome those limitations.

Never underestimate the value of a good struggle. Being overlooked and under-hyped has its advantages. There is opportunity there if you're willing to embrace it.

Have a great week!
