The Tri Town Times: 7/15/19

Y-Not tri album; Twilight Crit summary; caffeine's effect on performance; core exercise; amateurs vs professionals; free speed tips with Jean-Paul Ballard of Swiss Side.

Hi all,

Here is your weekly TT Times newsletter:

Weekend Race Report-

- The criterium-style Y-Not Triathlon was Saturday. This local event is perfect for beginners to elite athletes and should be on your calendar for next year. Results here, and our photo album from the race is here.

- Jennifer Valente took her third victory and Justin Williams his second at the Twilight Criterium this past Saturday. Race summary here. This video we shared a few weeks ago regarding Justin's background and journey through cycling is worth watching.

- And possibly the greatest endurance feat this weekend was Wimbledon's epic five-set tie break final between Rodger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Djokovic came out on top of this historic match. Highlight video here.

Training Thoughts and Updates-

- A meta-analysis review of caffeine's effect on performance once again shows measurable benefits for the endurance athlete. Thank God!

- A study of core exercise work and benefits to running economy.

- Last week's article from Shane Parish on goals vs habits seemed to really hit home for a lot of people. Here is another great article from Shane on the difference between amateurs and professionals.

Popular Social Post-
Our legendary in-house photographer Scott Conover published two photo albums this week. Check them out and please help us tag athletes and friends:

- 2019 70.3 Coeur d'Alene

- 2019 Y-Not Triathlon

Quote that Struck a Chord-
“You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That's the only thing you should be trying to control.” - Elizabeth Gilbert

If You Have a Moment to Spare-
I had the pleasure of meeting Jean-Paul Ballard of Swiss Side while in Germany this past week. His prototype pitot tube designed for bicycles caught my eye (a game changer I believe once it hits the market, along the lines of how power meters changed the sport 20+ years ago). This is a long presentation with Jean-Paul, but many free speed tips can be found within.

Have a great week!
