Boston Marathon, Robie Creek, Victor Campenaerts breaks Sir Bradley Wiggins hour record, research after studying 10 million marathon finishers.

Hi all,

Exactly one year ago our team and I began publishing this weekly newsletter. Our goal is to add a small bit of value to your week by keeping you up to speed on sound advice and key events in the swim, bike, and run world. In that regards I hope we have been successful. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read the Tri Town Times, share it, and send me your feedback.

And how here is your weekly TT Times update:

Weekend Race Report-

- In case you missed it, ~30k runners toed the line for the Boston Marathon last Monday. Congrats to all who raced this historic event. Search results by name, city, state, etc here.

- The rains this spring may have washed out much of the road to Aldape Summit, but a herculean community effort repaired the road enough to hold the infamously hard Race to Robie Creek half marathon on Saturday. Congrats to all 2300 participants. Results here.

- Victor Campenaerts broke Sir Bradley Wiggin's 4-year old Hour Record by riding just over 55k in an hour. Campenaerts is a time trial specialist from Belgium, and set the new benchmark at the famous high altitude Aguascalientestrack in Mexico. Why compete at ~6000ft? At 34+ mph air density is a significant factor. The thin air is worth the slight loss in oxygen.

Events We're Looking Forward To-

- The Ironman North American Championship race is this Saturday in the Woodlands, TX. Outside of Kona this is one of the most competitive races in the world.

- The 70.3 Ironman North American Championship race is next Saturday in St. George, UT. The hilly and often hot course is an honest test of early season fitness for many locals.

- Kris Gethin's "Man of Iron" book launch is next Tuesday, at Tri Town. The fun starts at 6pm.

Training Thoughts and Updates-
Due to continued rain this past week and cold water temperatures we are pushing back our group swim one more week. The water at Quinn's pond raised a few degrees, but is still too cold for us to offer an effective and safe workout environment. With that said, we are planning on hosting the first group swim workout next Monday at 6pm regardless of water temperature. This free workout will be structured to help prepare those athletes competing in 70.3 St. George next weekend.

Gear that Caught Our Attention-
Now that we're getting into the 2019 season, here are my two favorite resources for race course info, athlete tracking, and race results:

- Obsessed Triathlete for race course info and course comparisons.

- Ironman Tracker App for day-of athlete tracking, results, athlete guides, and event schedule.

Quote that Struck a Chord-
"He was so singular in his focus on himself, and on getting the most out of himself, using all the information, but gleaning it down so it worked for Kochie."

-Hall of Fame Nordic Ski Coach Marty Hall, referring to Olympic Silver Medalist Bill Koch, who invented the skate ski technique.

If you have a few moments to spare-

Have a great week!
