The Tri Town Times: 3/23/2020

Race calendars occupy cancellations and reschedules; We continue to offer our bike pick-up service Mondays & Thursdays; Wahoo Kickr products on sale.

Thank you Mandi for sending us this photo of her husband, Douglas Flinn, as he powered through the run of this year's Ironman New Zealand.

Weekend Race Report:
Almost all events are cancelled or postponed, but Ironman recently announced a "Virtual Club" and "Race Series" that will launch April 1st. There are not many details available at the moment, but it appears athletes will use a web-based platform to complete a course either on home equipment or outside. More details can be found here.

Events We're Looking Forward To:
The local YMCA Spring Sprint Triathlon has been bumped to July 10th and 11th.

Training Thoughts and Updates:
  • With many local pools closed, I've received many questions regarding the safety of swimming in what few pools are still open. The CDC states that swimming in chlorinated pools is actually safe, with studies showing that chlorine effectively kills both normal and novel Coronaviruses (salt water pools have not yet been studied to my understanding). The problem of course, is the public nature of most pools. If you or someone you know has a private chlorinated pool, swimming should be safe. Open water swimming should also be safe (though our local Quinn's Pond is currently a frigid 49 degrees F).
  • Just because the pools are closed, it doesn't mean we can't continue working on swim-specific strength. I've given most of my athletes swim stretch cord workouts for the next few weeks, and this short video does a fair job of showing how its done.

Shop Ops
  • We are currently staying open, albeit with a reduced staff. The response for our mobile pickup and delivery has been highly positive, and we'll continue to offer this service for free for the next couple weeks. To meet the demand and the reality of our staffing ability, we're currently offering pickup/delivery service on Monday mornings and Thursday evenings. This means, if you'd like us to pick up your bike today, please book it here, and we'll service it and return your bike by Thursday evening. Or, we can pick up your bike on Thursday, and return it to you on Monday. We are limiting this service to Boise, Meridian, and Eagle at the moment.
  • Our "The Basics of Road and Triathlon Bike Fitting" Seminar, originally planned for this Wednesday, has been postponed to a future date.

Gear That Caught Our Attention:
The weather is becoming more consistent, though many of us are choosing to stay inside for obvious reasons. We have a few extra trainers left over from the winter, and now seems like as good a time as any to offer a temporary 20% Off Sale on all our remaining Wahoo Kickr products including the Wahoo Kickr trainer, the Kickr Core, and Kickr Climb.

Quote that Struck a Chord:
"I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent- no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you." Seneca.

Stay healthy and have a great week!
