Big Sexy wins Ultraman Florida; Dr. Staci Sim on sports on nutrition; Garmin buys Tacx.
Hi all,
Here is your weekly TT Times update:
Weekend Race Report-
- Long time Kiwi triathlete Chris "Big Sexy" McDonald won Ultraman Florida in record time. Chris lived for a summer in Boise, and showed us locals the true meaning of grit and toughness in training.
- The highly competitive 70.3 Geelong in Australia was won by Radka Kahlefeldt and Javier Gomez. This early season race is a good test to see who is bringing strong form into the 2019 season.
Training Thoughts and Updates-
Dr. Staci Sim is a world leader in nutrition science, and this wide-ranging discussion with the crew from Flo Wheels has countless insights for any concerned with body composition and training/racing nutrition.
Gear that Caught Our Attention-
Garmin has purchased Tacx, a 60+ year old Dutch company, apparently for their indoor trainer technology. The Tacx Neo is one of the top indoor trainers on the market, and it will be exciting to see what changes this partnership brings to the trainer market in the near future.
Quote that Struck a Chord-
In honor of President's Day it seemed appropriate to share my favorite quote from the 26th President of the United States:
“A man's usefulness depends upon his living up to his ideals insofar as he can.
It is hard to fail but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.
All daring and courage, all iron endurance of misfortune make for a finer, nobler type of manhood.
Only those are fit to live who do not fear to die and none are fit to die who have shrunk from the joy of life and the duty of life.” -Theodore Roosevelt
If you have a few moments to spare-
If you enjoyed the above nutrition podcast and last week's "All for One" documentary, then you'll love following Chef Hannah Grant as the head chef for the Orica-Scott Professional Cycling Team in this Amazon Original "Eat. Race. Win".
