Joe Skipper breaks Ironman Florida record; GB cycling track bike; Zwift dinosaur; Matteo Jorgenson on breaking into the WorldTour.
Hi all,
Here is your weekly TT Times newsletter:
Weekend Race Report-
- Joe Skipper of Great Britain won Ironman Florida in record time, with Ben Hoffman backing up his impression 4th place finish in Kona a few weeks ago by taking 2nd (and closing with a 2hr 36min marathon. Ironman Florida was a men's only pro race, with Ironman Arizona in a few weeks a women's only event.
- Miranda Carfrae and Lionel Sanders are both back on track after taking the top spots at 70.3 Los Cabos yesterday.
Events We're Looking Forward To-
A solid group of locals will be racing Ironman Arizona on November 24th.
Gear That Caught Our Attention-
With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics fast approaching, I expect to see a lot more out-of-the-box design and thinking coming from the cycling power house countries.
Popular Social Post-
I don't always ride Zwift, but when I do, I want to ride as a dinosaur.
Quote that Struck a Chord-
“I’d always end up broken down on the highway. When I stood there trying to flag someone down, nobody stopped. But when I pushed my own car, other drivers would get out and push with me. If you want help, help yourself – people like to see that.”
Chris Rock
If You Have a Moment to Spare-
If you identify with Chris Rock's quote above, then you'll like this article from VeloNews regarding Matteo Jorgenson. Matteo, along with Will Barta, are some of the few up and coming WorldTour level cyclist who grew up here in Boise, Idaho. The article highlights the tenacity and dogged persistence Matteo demonstrated to break into the pro field. Even though Matteo clearly had the talent and ability to be competitive at the highest level, it didn't mean the ProTour teams simply embraced him and pulled him down the path to success. We can't be surprised when the world doesn't do us a favor. The world owes us nothing. Like Matteo, begin by helping yourself instead, and you may be surprised how opportunities begin coming out of the woodwork.
Have a great week!
