Hi all,

Here is your weekly Tri Town Times newsletter:

Event's I'm Looking Forward To:
Challenge Daytona is this Saturday and Sunday. The Sunday event will host one of the most competitive professional fields ever assembled in triathlon, supported by a million dollar prize purse.

Training Thoughts and Updates:
An interesting interview with Matt Hart, author of Win at All Costs: Inside Nike Running and Its Culture of Deception. In the past I've fallen into the trap of believing that doping is an athlete-driven offense, meaning the athlete is solely responsible for their actions and are 100% at fault for orchestrating a doping routine (often reinforced by cycling teams distancing themselves from their convicted riders). It now seems rare to me that an athlete is solely responsible. Often pressure from top management, coaches, and the "win at all costs" attitude leaves the athlete feeling like they have little choice if they want to continue participating at the highest levels. An excellent film on this topic is ICARUS, available on Netflix.

Gear That Caught My Attention:
'dual engagement' chain claims to lower rolling resistance, increase chain life, and decrease the reliance on lubrication. It will be interesting to see if this catches on. The innovative design is promising, but currently limited to single speed drivetrains.

Quote that Struck a Chord:
As an extension of the thoughts on doping, and in memory of the brilliant CEO, Tony Hsieh:

“No matter what your past has been, you have a spotless future.” -Tony Hsieh.

Have a great week and train smart!
