The Tri Town Times 7/6/2020

This year the TDF takes place virtually; USA Cycling is cancelling nearly all national events; Kris Gethin on habits of champions; Local athlete Erin Green starts an informative and fun podcast.

Weekend Race Report:

Events We're Looking Forward To:
An excellent piece from Slowtwitch publisher Dan Empfield on how the public's fight against COVID-19 is similar to an endurance event- and like all endurance events, it requires stamina, sacrifice, persistence.

Training Thoughts and Updates:
The City of Boise has mandated that face masks be worn in public unless a social distance of 6' or more can be maintained. I ask those of you who join our group workouts to please wear a masks during the times that a safe social distance cannot be maintained. Thank you for taking this simple step to help protect each other.

Popular Social Post:
Kris Gethin on the habits of champions.

Quote that Struck a Chord:
The fear of change is often at the root of our hesitation to take action. At least it was for me over 10 years ago when struggling to decide if opening a bike shop in a recession was a good idea. I came up with any number of excuses to not take action: bad timing, not enough money, not enough experience, poor location, etc. I was 28 years old when I opened Tri Town, and realize now that at that age I had the experience and knowledge to open the business many years earlier. But what I didn't have was the right mentality to let go of who I was, and be open to becoming who I needed to be.

Turning pro is free, but it's not without cost. When we turn pro, we give up a life with which we may have become extremely comfortable. We give up a self that we have come to identify with and to call our own. We may have to give up friends, lovers, even spouses." - Steven Pressfield in "Turning Pro".

If You Have a Moment to Spare:
Recently retired pro triathlete Erin Green and I often have great and far-ranging conversations. So I was naturally excited when she mentioned a new podcast she's developing with a friend. The podcast is called "Middleish", and is about finding moderation in all things. She's already posted 4 episodes, and I just finished Episode 2 about Developing Habits. Keep up the great work, Erin!

Have a great week!
