Super League Triathlon Series Comes to USA; Endurance Exchange in Tempe; MLK - Normal Hours; Research on Strength and Running Performance; Ideas to Help Discern the Validity of Information.

Events We're Looking Forward To-
  • I'm very excited to see a professional-level Super League Triathlon in the United States. And in case you want to partake in the action in Tempe, Arizona on May 23rd, there is an age-group category race too in which competitors complete an 'Enduro' format swim/bike/run course (twice through, nonstop).
  • Speaking of Tempe, the Endurance Exchange is this week in Tempe, AZ. The Endurance Exchange is a cooperative conference bringing together the nation's triathlon-industry professionals, coaches, and race directors. I look forward to attending with Dom and Ricardo from our shop, and will be sure to share highlights of the trip in next weeks newsletter.

Shop Ops-
We are open our normal hours today from 10am to 6pm. Enjoy Martin Luther King Day!

Training Thoughts and Updates-
Recent research shows a poor correlation between general strength and running performance, but a strong correlation between eccentric strength and leg-spring stiffness. Meaning? Your run performance may benefit from a well designed training program that includes a plyometric, downhill running, and sprint training routine.

Quote that Struck a Chord-
Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” - Henry David Thoreau

If You Have a Moment to Spare-
Today's quote was referenced in a relevant article titled "Good Science, Bad Science, Pseudoscience: How to Tell the Difference" by Shane Parish. The article helps break down ways to determine the validity of advice, blog posts, and research articles. I found the article especially informative to today's environment where we are exposed to a high amount of information that often appears to be based on solid research, but may be pseudoscience or simply bad science in disguise. Taking time to consider our sources, especially when reading diet, supplement, and exercise advise, is always a good idea.

Have a great week!
