- How the best cyclists actually pedal a bike
- Possible big changes for Downtown YMCA

Hi all,

It has been a busy week at the shop and in the endurance sports world. Don't forget this is your week to drop off your gear to sell in this weekend's Tri Swap. We've hosted this sale for 8 years, and it continues to be a great way to sell or purchase gently used equipment. There are always gems being sold at great prices, and we'll have new equipment on sale too. The sale is this Saturday and Sunday, hope to see you there!

Weekend race report:

- The women's race at Ironman Chattanooga was won by Sky Moench with a dominating bike split aboard her beautifully painted Trek. Joe Skipper won the men's race on the back of a strong bike/run combination. Cody Beals, who spent time training in Boise this summer, found great form with a 4th place finish.

- Congrats to local professional triathlete Danielle Lewis who took 3rd overall at 70.3 Augusta yesterday.

Events I'm looking forward to:
Recently the Ironman corporation moved the World Championships (WC) race in Kona, Hawaii from October 2021 to February 2022, and has now announced the race cannot happen in February either due to the pandemic. The 2021 race will be moved to May of 2022, and will take place in St. George, Utah.

- Ironman will try to host the 2022 WC race during the normal time in October, but split the race up over a few days. The women will race on Thursday, October 6th, and the men will race on the usual day of Saturday, October 8th.

- Over the years there has been talk of the relocating the Ironman WC, much like the 70.3 WC. There is a lot of rich history in Kailua-Kona, but the town is small and often overwhelmed by the race. This will be the first time in history the Ironman WC will not be raced on the Hawaiian islands.

Training thoughts:
I've been helping a lot of athletes with their bicycle fit and position lately, and one area of consistent confusion has been with how to make an "ideal pedal stroke". The common misconception is that the cyclist must make a "perfect circle" with their feet- which would not only be exceedingly difficult, but require a lot of thought and concentration if it were possible. Ultimately the pedal stroke is very simple: the best cyclists simply push down the hardest. They do not pull up on the backstroke (exceptions being a sprint or start from a stop). You simply need to lift the foot/leg out of the way on the backstroke, then bring it to the front to allow you legs to do what they were designed to do: which is to push down hard.

Shop ops:
The annual Tri Swap is October 2nd and 3rd. We have hosted this swap and store sale for over 8 years, and it continues to be a popular way to buy or sell used and new gear. Remember to drop off your gently used gear the week of the swap: anytime between today and Friday.

You have passed through life without an opponent. No one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you.” - Seneca

If you have a moment to spare:

- The downtown YMCA and surrounding area may see some major changes in the near future.

- An impressive world record free dive caught on camera.

Have a great week!
