The Tri Town Times: 2/11/19

Wildflower cancelled; training the gut; SRAM eTap AXS released; "All for One" documentary.

Hi all,

Here is your weekly TT Times update:

Events We're Looking Forward To-
When I started triathlons ~18 years ago, the Wildflower Triathlon was the half ironman that everyone talked about. Unfortunately this year's Wildflower triathlon has been cancelled. It's not clear why (low water levels; low pre-registration; etc), but the race directors are still planning a 2020 edition.

Training Thoughts and Updates-
For the endurance athlete training the gut can be just as important as training your muscular and cardiovascular system.

Gear that Caught Our Attention-
The brand new SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset has received a lot of attention since being released last week. This component package is the next evolution of the popular wireless 'eTap' groupo and is impressively versatile. Key features include:
  • 12 speed drivetrain
  • 10t rear cog- allowing for higher gearing
  • 1x or 2x chainring options.
  • Chainring-based power meter option (and the chainring apparently does not wear out under normal riding conditions).
  • Retro-tech compatible with older eTap groupsets.
  • Cross-tech compatible with SRAM's new wireless "Eagle" groupsets,

Popular Social Post-
I'm both honored and humbled to be included in this group as a potential cover story for Triathlete Magazine. Thank you to everyone who voted, the outpouring of support has been incredible. I'll keep you in the loop on who they select.

Quote that Struck a Chord-
After fighting a cold and struggling to get out of bed last week, one of my favorite quotes from Marcus Aurelius comes to mind:

At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: ‘I have to go to work – as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for – the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?’”

If you have a few moments to spare-
A friend recently recommended I watch "All for One", and it made my weekend long ride just fly by. If you're a fan of professional cycling you'll love the behind the scenes look at the lifestyle and chaos of professional racing. Included on Amazon Prime Video.

Have a great week!
