- NICA Idaho State mountain bike championships held at BSU
- The 125th Boston marathon is today
- Marathon nutrition guide.
- Research continues to not be able to confirm injury prevention benefits of stretching.

Hi all,

Here is your weekly TT Times newsletter:

Weekend race report:

- NICA's Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League (IICL) held the high school state championship race last Saturday at Bogus Basin Ski Resort. Thousands of junior high and high school athletes competed on the mountainous course- with the McCall Composite team taking the overall win. IICL is doing an amazing job of getting students and parents on bikes in a safe and thoughtful way.

- The 125th Boston Marathon is currently underway.

Events I'm looking forward to:
  • 70.3 Arizona is this Sunday, October 17th.

Training thoughts:

- A thorough marathon nutrition guide (and highly applicable to any endurance sport).

-Strength training, rather than stretching, appears to be a better way to prevent sports and overuse injuries. A meta-analysis of 25 trials with 26,000+ participants concluded: "Despite a few outlying studies, consistently favourable estimates were obtained for all injury prevention measures except for stretching. Strength training reduced sports injuries to less than 1/3 and overuse injuries could be almost halved."

Quote that struck a chord:
"We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same." - Carlos Castaneda

So much of what happens in our life comes down to how we chose to perceive it. Was it unfortunate something happened to me, or fortunate because it gives me the opportunity to learn, adapt, and become stronger?

Have a great week!
