The new R5 frame is just 651 grams (size 56), and the fork is 298 grams. In the SRAM Red configuration, a size 56 builds up to just 5.97kg, a full 900 grams under the UCI’s minimum weight limit. In addition to the 100g reduction in frame/fork weight, Cervelo addressed every in-house component on the bike, for a total weight reduction of 326g from all Cervelo components.
The handling geometry on the new R5 is nearly the same (aside from a small change to BB drop to account for 29mm tires), Cervelo changed the fit geometry to match that of the S5.
The all-new HB18 bar/stem is not only two watts more aerodynamic than the previous generation bar, but also dropped nearly 150 grams from the weight of the bike. Cervelo applied learnings from the S5 handlebar to develop a comfortable, fast, and stiff handlebar, ideal for big days in the saddle and hard fights to the line. All bar sizes are UCI-legal.
We take a Fit-First approach at Tri Town, and Cervelo does too. We know that achieving a perfect fit is a critical component to not just speed, but comfort on the bike. As part of our development of the new bikes, Cervelo made several additional stem length/bar width combinations to make sure all riders can get as close to their ideal fit as possible. Purchase a new S5 or R5, and during your complimentary bike fit we will help you identify the ideal bar/stem size and order it in for no extra charge. This request must be made within the first 60 days of ownership.
The all-new Reserve 34 | 37 SL wheelset was designed specifically for the R5, and drops an additional 60 grams. The new wheels deliver the same strength and stiffness as the old ones, and Cervelo refined the layup to save weight without hampering performance.
Like all Cervelo bikes and Reserve wheelsets, the R5 comes with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty, so you can ride with confidence.
