This Week: 70.3 Coeur d'Alene wrap up.

Hi all,

This will be a short and sweet newsletter. This past weekend I had a wonderful time in Coeur d'Alene for the 70.3. This is one of the best half distance events out there- the entire CDA community comes out to support the athletes and race itself. The love for the event is obvious, and I cannot recommend it more.

I don't have the opportunity to race triathlons often- the race season overlaps with our busy season, and I often find it too stressful to leave the shop for extended periods of time. Once the gun goes off though, I remind myself that these next few hours are a celebration of all the work and training I did to get to this point. That thought helps to calm me, centers me in the moment, and helps me find peace with the results of the day.

Congrats to all of you who raced this weekend. And to those who have races in the near future- remember to enjoy and celebrate the countless hours of work you put in to get to the starting line.

Weekend race report:

I counted well over 80 athletes from our local region competing in 70.3 Coeur d'Alene. The weather was picture perfect, and many local athletes ended up on the podium and qualified for the 70.3 World Championships in St. George later this fall.

Results here.

Events I'm looking forward to:

Quote that struck a chord:

"The only way to become excellent is to be endlessly fascinated by doing the same thing over and over. You have to fall in love with boredom." - James Clear, in his excellent book Atomic Habits.

If you have a moment to spare:

I love podcast, especially for long drives or trainer workouts. One of the best podcast on triathlon is from legendary triathlete Greg Bennett. His personal knowledge of the sport, combined with his history of competition against many of his guests make the episodes fun and insightful. This episode, with 5x Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander and Gold Medalist Simon Whitfield, is fantastic and full of stories of racing, friendship, and training advice.

Train smart, and have a great week!
